Synopsis

Mustapha Kemal, known as Atatürk (the father of the Turks), succeeded in changing the Ottoman Empire in ways that the European states had failed.

He fought against the country's history by overturning the fundamentals of a society governed by religion and the caliphate. His aim was to modernise Turkey, to make it adopt a more Western and secular model.

But wasn’t he also what some would have called "a good dictator"?
