The cultural role of women in the Arab world
Throughout the 20th century, the main political and intellectual figures who accompanied the birth of nationalist movements in the Arab world were mainly men (Nasser, Neguib Mahfouz, Bourguiba ...).
Women, on the other hand, took over another field of public life, that of art, particularly songs and cinema, in which they found themselves in the forefront. They spoke about the intimate, exposed their feelings and their bodies.
They played a crucial role during the golden age of cultural revolution in the Arab world, which spanned from the 1920s to the 1970s.
