Gérard Depardieu begins his journey in the region of Fukui where he tastes, in the restaurant of an outstanding chef, a fugu, a fish that can be deadly if not well prepared.
He then travels to Otakiko where Ichibei Iwano, promoted to "living national treasure", tells him the secrets of making "washi" paper.
Finally, the actor goes to the temple of Eihei-ji, the Mecca of Buddhism, where he is initiated into zazen, the sitting meditation.
