IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GEORGE CHINNERY
The pPainter of China in the mid-19th century
George Chinnery was one of the first and most notable European artists to live in Southern China prior to the arrival of photography. His sketches, watercolours and oil paintings are held in private collections and museums worldwide.
This film depicts the life and works of the English painter during his years in Macao in the mid-19th century.
The artist’s work captures vividly the Chinese culture and the way of life for expatriates in the Far East during the China Trade and Opium War years from 1825 to 1860.
