Synopsis

At the height of the Second World War, John Steinbeck wrote the screenplay for “Lifeboat” for Alfred Hitchcock, thinking he was helping the war effort. But the film's racist overtones surprised the screenwriter.


In spite of itself, this product of the American film industry highlights the questions facing America at the time.


On its release, the film's ambitions backfired, and Hitchcock was panned by the critics.
